My theoris (opinions) for the fights for... (viewed 146 times)

My theories: (I will give all my stats according to sherdog.com)

UNDER CARD:

Corey Hill vs. Justin Buchholz:

Corey Hill still a new comer to pro MMA. With a record of 2-0-0, Corey has won both by TKO. Though he is the opening match on the under card he will have a lot to gain with a win.

Justin Buchholz is 7-2-0 (according to sherdog.com, but according to ufc.com it is 8-2-0), with 3 wins by (T)KO; 3 by submission; and the other victory by decision. One of Justin's losses was by submission and the other is by (T)KO. Actually, Justin went from fighting at EliteXC: Uprising to then fighting at UFC - Fight Night 12. In the UFC, Justin is 0-1-0. This is a big match for Justin because he needs a win to prove to the UFC that he belongs.

If this is a stand up match it will be interesting to see who will get the knock out victory.

Melvin Guillard vs. Dennis Siver:

Melvin Guillard is 21-7-2 (according to sherdog.com, but according to ufc.com it is 39-8-3), with 13 wins by (T)KO; 3 wins by submission; and 5 wins by decision. 6 of his losses were by submission and his other loss was by decision. This actually a return for Melvin into the UFC. After his match at UFC 79, he left the UFC to fight in Rage in the Cage. He won his Rage in the Cage match, and is now coming into the UFC to make an epic return.

Dennis Siver is 11-5-0, with 3 wins by (T)KO; 6 by submission; and 2 by decision. 4 of Dennis's losses were by submission and his one other loss was by decision. For Dennis, this a big match because he is facing a true veteran of the game. If Dennis wins, it will prove that he is ready to step up to bigger competition.

Both men are going into this match with a big monkey on their back. Melvin has to prove that he ready make a big UFC comeback, and Dennis has to prove that he can take on top competition.

Melvin seems more likely to stand, while Dennis will probably try to take down Melvin. I hope Melvin's ground game has improved.

Jorge Gurgel vs. Cole Miller:

Jorge Gurgel is 12-3-0 (according to sherdog.com, but on ufc.com his record is 16-3-0), with 9 wins by submission and 3 by decision. 2 of Jorge's losses were by decision and the other was by submission. Jorge's recent match was a unanimous decision victory, so he is coming into this match with a smaller monkey on his back.

Cole Miller is 13-3-0, with 3 wins by (T)KO; 8 by submission; and 2 by decision. Of Cole's 3 losses, 2 were by decision and one by (T)KO. Cole has never been submitted, and this is the same man that when on TUF 5 he took an elbow accidental to the back of the head and continued a match in a sort of daze. Cole is a true fighter, and is ready to avenge his loss to Jeremy Stephens.

Since Cole has never been submitted, it will be interesting to see if he will be submitted. Both fighters are dominant submission fighters, so it will probably be a ground submission fight.

Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Justin McCully:

Gabriel Gonzaga is 8-3-0, with 3 wins by (T)KO and 5 wins by submission. All of Gabriel's losses have been by (T)KO. Gabriel has lost his last two matches, and is in a big need of a victory. Gabriel got a his big break when he beat Mirko Filipovic. After beating Mirko he has been going down hill, but both of those losses should have improved him to prepare for Justin McCully.

Justin McCully is 8-3-2, with 5 wins by submission and 3 by decision. All of Justin's losses were by submission. Justin's last fight was over a year ago which was a victory. Still, Justin is at a disadvantage because he hasn't had a match in over a year. Justin had 1 match in 2007 (against Antoni Hardonk), but Gabriel had 2 matches in 2007 (against Mirko and Randy). On the other hand, Justin is the considered the under dog in this match. Since he is the under dog, he has a lot less pressure on him. Also, because Gonzaga is now known as a bigger named fighter then him he has a lot less to lose. If Justin loses he can only build from it.

This match is huge for Gabriel, when you really look at his last 3 fights. When he fought Mirko and Randy he was fighting in the main event, but in his most recent match with Werdum he was in the co - main event. On the other hand Justin McCully, has had only one match and it was with Antoni Hardonk. I actually remember seeing the Hardonk McCully fight, it was not really fun to watch. So, this is Justin's chance to prove that he can handle competition and that he can be more exciting.

Justin and Gabriel have something big to prove as they are the main event of the under card.

MAIN CARD:

Tyson Griffin vs. Marcus Aurelio:

Tyson Griffin is 11-1-0, with 5 wins by (T)KO; 3 by submission; and 3 wins by decision. Tyson's only loss was by a unanimous decision to Frank Edgar. Tyson is most notably recognized as being so far the only guy to beat Urijah Faber, and Tyson TKOed him out in the third round. Tyson's last 3 matches have gone the distance, and I am sure that he wants to shorten that time period. He has a chance to improve himself this Saturday.

Marcus Aurelio is 16-5-0 (according to sherdog.com, but ufc.com he is 14-5-0), with 3 wins by (T)KO; 10 wins by submission; and 3 wins by decision. All 5 of Marcus's losses were do to decisions. I think Marcus will enjoy putting his Brazilian Jiu - Jitsu skills on Tyson.

This is big fight for both fighters, because this is a chance for both fighters to improve their chances of a title shot. This match will also be big for the fans who really enjoy watching big named fighters go at it.

Personally when I look at this is match it looks more like a number one contenders match, if anything at all.

Josh Koscheck vs. Chris Lytle:

Josh Koscheck is 10-2-0 (according to sherdog.com, but it is 13-2-0 according to ufc.com), with 2 wins by (T)KO; 4 wins by submission; and 4 wins by decision. Josh lost once by submission and once by decision. Josh is back on the rise after he beat Dustin Hazelett. The only person in his way, right now, from rising to the top is Chris Lytle.

Chris Lytle is 25-15-5 (according to sherdog.com, but his record is 35-15-4 according to ufc.com), 4 wins by (T)KO; 17 wins by submission; 3 wins by decision; and 1 victory unknown. Chris Lytle has faced some of the toughest fighters, but lost to a lot of the best. Still, Chris Lytle is no stepping stone to anyone, and the tough fighters that he lost to were by decision. Lytle has been so close to being in the top ten, but he always seems to get beaten before he enters the top ten in the Welterweight Division. This is big for Lytle this may be the match to push him forward.

This match will most likely end by a submission or by decision, more likely by a submission.

Joe Stevenson vs. Gleison Tibau:

Joe Stevenson is 28-8-0 (according to sherdog.com, but it is 33-8-0 according to ufc.com), with 6 wins by (T)KO; 12 by submission; 9 by decision; and 1 victory by other. Joe lost 1 fight by (T)KO, 3 by submission, and 4 by decision. Joe lost his most recent fight to BJ Penn to fight for the vacated UFC Lightweight Championship. Joe Stevenson put up a great fight against BJ for those that don't know or remember. This is Joe's chance to bounce back and possibly get a rematch for the title.

Gleison Tibau is 15-5-0 (according to sherdog.com, but according to ufc.com his record is 27-4-0), with 2 wins by (T)KO; 7 wins by submission ; and 6 wins by decision. Gleison has lost 3 times by (T)KO and 2 times by decision. Gleison's latest fight was being defeated by Tyson Griffin.

Both fighters are coming off heavy losses in their career. This is both of their comeback matches. Do expect this match to be a big ground fight.

Patrick Cote vs. Ricardo Almeida:

Patrick Cote is 12-4-0 (according to sherdog.com, but according to ufc.com it is 13-4-0), with 6 wins by (T)KO; 3 wins by submission; and 3 wins by decision. Patrick lost twice by submission and decision. Patrick has been on a great rise in the UFC, because his first 4 fights in the UFC were losses. His last 3 fights in the UFC have been victories. Patrick is growing to the US fans every time.

Ricardo Almeida is 9-2-0, with 4 wins by submission and 5 by decision. Ricardo has lost once by (T)KO and once by disqualification. Almeida is running on a 7 fight win streak, with a 1-0-0 record in the UFC. On one hand, he is ridding a 7 fight win streak but he still probably has the UFC jitters.

This is one of those fights that will be interesting to see the outcome of. Both are on a rise, and it is sad that one of these fighters have to fall down the ladder to the top.

Quinton Jackson vs. Forrest Griffin:

Quinton Jackson is 28-6-0 (according to sherdog.com, but according to ufc.com it is 27-6-0), with 13 wins by (T)KO; 7 wins by submission; and 8 wins by decision. Quinton Jackson has lost 3 times by (T)KO, 1 by submission, lost once by decision, and lost once by disqualification. Quinton Jackson has a very unique PrideFC career. He lost to Wanderlei Silva twice, beat Murilo Bustamante (2nd UFC Middleweight Champion, he went to Pride still UFC champ), beat Igor Vovchanchyn, beat Kevin Randleman, beat Murilo Rua, lost to Mauricio Rua, and the list goes on. Still, Quinton beat Chuck the second time in 1 minute and 53 seconds and he beat Dan Henderson (who was Pride's Welterweight and Middleweight Champion).

Forrest Griffin is 15-4-0, with 3 (T)KO wins; 7 submissions; and 5 decisions. Forrest has lost twice by (T)KO and twice by decision. Forrest Griffin is a man that helped main stream this spot from his first fight with Stephen Bonner and beyond. Forrest's first fight was against the MMA legend Dan "The Beast" Severn, and even though Forrest lost he went the distance with him. Forrest's most recent fight was a submission victory over Mauricio Rua.

This match is HUGE, because everyone wants to see the outcome. Forrest has been climbing to the top what seems like ever since the infamous Griffin Ortiz fight. Quinton puts on the best show he can, he will give you a ground fight or a stand up battle. Forrest can give us a stand up battle, or a ground battle.

Will we see submission, the (T)KO, or will we see the 5 round decision.
